Northern Lights Radio Society
The Limited Rover Award

The ARRL August UHF Contest, which we in the NLRS affectionately refer to as "RoverMania", has four official entry categories:
- Single Operator, Low Power (SOLP)
- Single Operator, High Power (SOHP)
- Rover
- Multioperator
The ARRL VHF contests (January, June, September) also have a limited multi-operator
category, in which the station limits itself to no more than four operational bands.
Here in the NLRS, we felt that one way to encourage more stations to get involved
in "RoverMania", even if they had a limited number of bands available to them, was
to add a new category, the Limited Rover. This new category is available to rover
stations that use no more than three bands of their choosing, at frequencies of
222 MHz and higher. So, even if you don't have all the bands from 222 MHz to 24 GHz
and beyond, you can still operate, have fun, and post a score that is competitive
with other Limited Rover stations.
Rules
The Northern Lights Radio Society (The NLRS, the Club) shall sponsor a first place and a second place plaque for the Limited Rover category as an addition to the ARRL's UHF contest. Winners may be located anywhere in the USA or Canada, and shall be determined by the three Club officers given the following guidelines:
- Winners must have adhered to the full rules and regulations
of the ARRL's UHF contest.
- They must have submitted a Rover category log. Winners shall
be determined by review of the contest data that appears on
the ARRL's contest website.
- A Limited Rover is defined as a rover who competes with no
more than three bands. The three bands may be any three bands
of their choice that are available for use during the UHF contest.
- Winners must have complied with both the rules and spirit of the
UHF contest and may not have demonstrated unfair rover practices.
Unfair rover practices may include such practices as exclusive
grid circling, pack roving, or captive roving. Determination
of this rule is at the discretion of The Club's officers.
We plan to implement this award starting with RoverMania IV, a/k/a the August 2007 UHF Contest.
